Equity and Inclusion

Excellence in Education
- Eliminating opportunity and achievement gaps based on race, ethnicity, primary or first language, and socioeconomic status, including: 
- Reading 
- Math 
- High school graduation rates 
- Discipline 
- Advocating for curriculum and learning resources that reflect the diverse experiences and histories of students and our community, including: 
- History and Social Studies Standards 
- Libraries with books that offer “windows and mirrors” to students 
- Supporting students’ mental health and social-emotional needs 
- Creating safe schools while minimizing harm to marginalized students 
Supported Teachers and Staff
- Fully funding our Capital Improvement Plan and eliminating overcrowding in ACPS schools. 
- Attracting and retaining excellent teachers and staff, including the hiring of more Black teachers and teachers of color. Research shows that all students, and especially students of color, fare better academically, socially, and emotionally, when they have teachers of diverse backgrounds. 
- Adopting a Collective Bargaining resolution that will give teachers, transportation and nutrition staff, and other school employees a seat at the table in negotiating salaries, working conditions, and benefits.
